Spectators yet to secure tickets to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) have today been handed a double-win, with the announcement of additional tickets being made available and the launch of the GC2018 Fan Marketplace.
As a result of GOLDOC’s continued efforts to maximise the number of tickets available to the public, Chairman Peter Beattie AC today announced that an additional release of tickets to most GC2018 events would become available at various stages over the next 27 days on a first-come, first-served basis.
In a further boost for spectators, the GC2018 Fan Marketplace – an authorised ticket resale site powered by Ticketek – has been created to give spectators the opportunity to list, sell and buy official GC2018 tickets.
The launch of the GC2018 Fan Marketplace comes after GOLDOC took into consideration feedback from GC2018 ticketholders and created a safe and secure environment for fans to list and sell tickets they can no longer use.
“This is a real win for fans as they can now purchase tickets to previously unavailable events through the normal authorised sales process at gc2018.com/tickets<http://www.gc2018.com/tickets>or buy and sell tickets through the GC2018 Fan Marketplace,” said Mr Beattie.
“With the preparation of the venues for GC2018 now well advanced, we have been able to make adjustments to the build of temporary facilities, releasing previously unavailable seats.
“This means that from today we are pleased to release additional tickets to sports that have previously had their ticket allocation exhausted such as Rugby Sevens and Triathlon.
“In fact, progressively over the next month, additional tickets will be made available to virtually all sports, including athletics and swimming, as temporary seating builds are finalised at each venue.
“In the lead-up to the Games, we urge people to keep checking ticket availability online at gc2018.com/tickets<http://www.gc2018.com/tickets>and hurry to avoid disappointment.
“This is the biggest sporting event in Australia this decade so it’s fantastic to be able to offer these additional opportunities for spectators to come and Share the Dream with us.”
The GC2018 Fan Marketplace would be available from today until midday on 30 March 2018 (AEST), which allows for any unsold tickets still to be used for the Games.
GOLDOC does not make a profit from any transaction conducted on the GC2018 Fan Marketplace and the seller or buyer does not pay additional fees. All tickets listed on the site match the price of the original ticket purchase.
GOLDOC CEO Mark Peters explained there had previously been no capacity for fans to resell, seek refunds or cancel their GC2018 tickets as part of strict measures that were put in place to protect the Games from ticket scalpers. Customers were encouraged to buy only the tickets they needed at the time of purchase.
“While GOLDOC had previously stated that existing ticketholders could not cancel or seek refunds for tickets that could no longer be used, the GC2018 Fan Marketplace provides an opportunity for those tickets to be purchased by another customer who can attend the Games.
“We want to give as many people as possible the chance to experience GC2018 and although there are no guarantees that all tickets listed on the site will be sold, this platform has created a safe marketplace for fans to list, sell and buy authorised tickets to GC2018.
“The GC2018 Fan Marketplace is an authorised ticket sales website and all tickets that appear on the site have been verified and approved by GOLDOC.
“Each time a ticket is sold on the GC2018 Fan Marketplace, the original ticket barcode is cancelled and a new ticket is created for the new ticket buyer.”
Spectators can log on to the GC2018 Fan Marketplace or check availability of the additional allocation of tickets at gc2018.com/tickets<http://www.gc2018.com/tickets>.
